We asked 160 Social Studies educators at the NCSS National Conference this year and the results are now in.
Teachers were all over the place and a few had similar ideas.
We asked 160 Social Studies educators at the NCSS National Conference in St Louis, "If Social Studies were a car..." What would it be? Listed was everything from Model-T Fords to Ferraris and Corvettes along with one loud and flashy 1965 red Mustang. There was a clear consensus around the idea of a classic.
The second theme centered around trucks, minivans and SUVs. Described as flexible space with lots of room and because they can carry everything.
Three ideas made us smile:
- the amphibious vehicle with wings
- the James Bond car with hidden weapons—very practical in unexpected situations
- a spaceship that connects the past to the future.
Here at Inquiring Minds we think Social Studies teachers really rock!
